Wolf Totem I Chapter 18 I Ghen Chen Raising Wolf

This chapter talks about all the hardship Ghen faces to raise a wolf among three other dogs.

Especially after stopping breast feed, dogs/wolf must be fed with really good protein foods. It is this food that will decide whether an animal grows strength or weak. Ghen here tries his level best to feed / care/ play with all his pets equally.

Dogs aren't an issue but wolf on the other hand is still mysterious to Ghen. Though he felt he almost befriended him, when its eating its all another story.

When the wolf is eating Ghen fears the hell out to go near him. It is always anxious and furious to attack or even kill whoever near while eating. To test this Ghen tried poking him with broom stick few times, but didn't work.

Ghen realises whatever he did to the wolf, its not a pet animal, especially not something to be grown by grassland people. Its like riding on tiger. tough to hop onn and even tough to get down. So, he understood 'he is not raising it' or 'providing it'; he is only having it as a slave; anything can happen anytime.

As he guessed wolf attacks one of cubs of yirr when they fought with wolf to play with erlong. Yes unlike other dogs, Erlong and the wolf were really close.

There is an interesting similarities between wolf mothers and women. Like how they risk their life to get a small prey like marmot, chew them well and feed their cubs, women protect their pets staying all night awake and feed them well. It is said if a house had an healthy pet/dog, then that family has the active women in the house.
